HISTORY OF ISO 22000

The history of ISO 22000, a food safety management system standard, can be traced back to the 1960s and early 2000s:

  •  ISO 22000:1960: The Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) developed the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) system, a preventive approach to food safety. 

 

  • ISO 22000:2000: As the food industry became more global, the need for a single set of guidelines for food safety became clear

 

  • ISO 22000:2005: ISO published the first version of ISO 22000, which was based on HACCP principles. The standard was developed with input from the food industry, international organizations, and the CAC
